I feel very fortunate to have a most loving husband and two fabulous children. My husband’s name is Herman and he is a native-born citizen of Charlottesville, Virginia. He would be pleased that I mentioned his heritage. Anybody that knows him would understand this humorous connection. Just check out our cars’ license plates! Herman is my best friend and is a consistent, loving supporter of all that I hope to accomplish.
Our son, Joshua graduated from the University of Virginia as a Systems Engineer. Josh works for BECHTEL Power Corporation and is currently assigned to BECHTEL’s power plant site in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. We love him dearly and we miss him, but he seems very happy. It is always special when he can make his way home for family events!
Our daughter Jennifer graduated from the University of Maryland (UM) with a degree in Environmental Science and Policy. Jennifer has a love for people and a high respect for the cultures and religions of the world. She has been most fortunate to be involved in “field studies” in third-world nations over the course of many summers via the Atlantic Coast Conference’s school system. She has traveled to Vietnam, Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Belize and India. She was fascinated to learn more about each nation’s infrastructure systems and to investigate their beginning and/or established non-profit organizations. Several additional experiences were provided which afforded good connections with students and/or organizations within each host nation. She was subsequently accepted into the Peace Corps and recently returned from her assignment in Paraguay. She is looking for a professional job now and hopes to possibly attend graduate school next fall to obtain a Master’s degree in Social Work. We’re just glad to have her home for the time being!
My mother-in-law Nannie lives nearby in a nursing home in Boonsboro, Maryland. We just recently celebrated her ninety-second birthday! Nannie lived with us for fifteen years prior to her having to move into a nursing home. She was a big part of the family before and still is! We bring her home on the weekends for three-hour stints to play cards and share in a family meal.
I am the fourth-born of eleven children. I have six sisters and three brothers. Most of them live within one-hour’s drive! If I took the time to tell you about them all – this blog would be many pages long! My father passed away about ten years ago and that was sad for us all. The good news is that my mother, Hazel Stultz, lives directly across the street from the school. Mom is a retired kindergarten teacher and volunteers in the room on a weekly basis! Lucky me!
My mother says that our family is like a community all to itself. We are about sixty people strong and I have been a “great aunt” for several years now! It simply doesn’t pay to be “one of the older ones”! Smile!
Last but not least (…and sometimes he’s top on the totem pole…) we have a dog named Trevor. He is a black and white English Cocker Spaniel. Most of the time, I consider him to be a blessing to the family!
OK! That’s it folks!
